We dodged a bullet earlier in the day. The storms missed us. So, Mommy and Daddy headed to dinner, but weren't gone long. They saw the weather channel in the restaurant and the storms in the far western part of the state were getting more "intense." So, they headed home.
Daddy spent the next half hour working on the remote for the TV (we had a to get a new receiver for the TV upstairs - don't ask). So, Mommy and I headed downstairs to watch TV. Once Daddy was finished, he called Mommy upstairs to see the "clouds" that were rolling-in. And, this is what she (and I) saw:
The clouds didn't look like anything I had ever seen before. I was not happy...and I made sure Mommy and Daddy knew that it was time to come inside. But, they only did when the tornado sirens went off (We would learn that a tornado had been spotted two miles West of Rogers and that it was moving East...right for us).
I ran back down to the basement...and I could tell that Mommy was scared. And then I heard a loud boom...I took off to go upstairs and Daddy ran after me. He told me that I would be safer in the basement. So, he picked me up and brought me to Mommy. And then, boom. It was a power going off (and then back on). So, Daddy ran upstairs to get my collar and leash (just so I could stay close to Mommy and Daddy). It seemed like forever before he came back downstairs. Daddy said that he had never seen anything like it before. The sky was a "black green." He said he thought to himself that this was going to "suck."
Needless to say, I stayed very close to Mommy and Daddy in the basement. Thankfully our power came back on and we could watch the track of the storm on the news.
We eventually went upstairs to see if we had any damage...and this is what we saw:
It turned out that all we got was a lot of rain...but many parts of the cities received rain, straight-line winds, hail and tornado touch downs.
But, at least I know what to do in a bad storm now. And, Mommy and Daddy said I did really well by remaining calm.
