Today it struck me. This is the first time in my life that I have lived alone. I went from my parent’s house to living with a number of people in college to moving in with my boyfriend who became my husband to going through a divorce and getting my own place for the first time. But my first place by myself included Cosmo. So I have truly never been alone until now.

Week One
It’s been a week since Cosmo crossed the rainbow bridge. I’m taking it day-by-day, but it isn’t easy. Cosmo’s physical presence was missed at Thanksgiving, where he would have run to greet his cousin FAQ each morning, been a spectator to our competitive game nights and would have been jumping for joy that Michigan finally beat Ohio State. But most of all, I missed my co-pilot on the drive back and forth to my sister’s house.
And we got new holiday drinking cups.
We partook in Black Friday.
But the biggest task of the weekend was giving the Cubs tree a facelift.
The Before.
The After.
I have a new appreciation for What goes into each of the trees my sister and her team create and decorate each year for charity.
Finally, I made a few statements, which I know Cosmo would love to share with you (even though I haven’t really felt like making any since he’s been gone)”

Thanksgiving 2021
Today I am thankful for my family, friends and co-workers who this week have started to help me navigate life without Cosmo. Cosmo came home in my arms 14.5 years ago and took is final breath in the same arms on Sunday afternoon. There are no words to describe how devastating his passing is to me, but I am comforted by the fact that he let me know it was time for his next chapter and that I was able to be with him until the very end.
Cosmo went from being the dog I never wanted to the family member I could not live without. We both brought out the best in each other and lived better lives as a result. Today, my world is a little more quiet and lacks the sparkle Cosmo gave to it every day. I know he is now running free, chasing his cousin Jackson Hareing (just like the old days) and having all the McDonald's french fries, chicken and chips he wants.
