The phrase made famous by Harry Caray have never rung so true today; Holy Cow! In case you haven't seen the news, the Cubs are in the World Series for the first time since 1945. In fact, the last time they won the world series was in 1908.
Mommy and I got all dressed up last night to watch the game.
I must admit that I was worried that they would get close and wouldn't win. But, Mommy assured me that these were not the Cubs of old.
But, Mommy assured me that these were not the Cubs of old. And they certainly are not.
But most of all, Mommy and I are excited to share this with Grandpa. Grandpa is a life long Cubs fan (born and raised in Chicago). And now there is a real possibility that they could win it all.
Grandpa wrote us a note this morning: "I am still somewhat overcome by the Cubs. Last night when they won, I could only think of all the times I traveled up to Wrigley via the "L", getting off at Addison St. and going into the bleachers, or if I had extra money (rare) to the left field grandstand where the WGN broadcast could be heard, and watching all the then starts and players of the National League. However. the most overwhelming thoughts was of my Dad and his stories of how he earned tickets to the cubs games by flipping the grandstand seats back up after a game and helping to sweep the grandstand of debris. Dad, Bill, Aunt Jean and many others would not believe this event occurred. Win or lose, I am very happy I lived long enough to witness this. BTW, remember the old Cubs radio man and former Cub player/Manager Lou Boudreau, he once played an managed Cleveland, including their 1948 appearance. My how the world turns."
I'm sure looking forward to watching history unfold and to hear more of Grandpa's stories. I feel really lucky (and so does Mommy) to be back in Daddy's hometown (living here no less) and to be able to have this once-in-a-lifetime experience. GO CUBS! FLY THE W!
