The Big Apple
Mommy and Daddy just returned from the Big Apple. Daddy had meetings in "The City" on Monday and Tuesday, so they thought why not go in a little early and make a weekend of it. I was fine with that because I knew I would get to spend the week with my friends.
Anyways, Mommy went out a day earlier than Daddy. She said it was because the airfare was hundreds of dollars cheaper, but I think she just wanted a little time to herself. Mommy's flight was delayed, but she eventually got there. Once there, she explored Time Square. Mommy thought about joining TLC's royal wedding viewing party so she needed to scope out where things were happening. After finding the location, Mommy made the decision to stay in and watch the wedding from the comfort of her hotel room.
Daddy joined Mommy on Friday. The room wasn't quite ready when Mommy moved to her new hotel, so she went shopping on 5th Avenue. She loved it...she said they really had a lot of the same things, but more inventory. So I guess in a way she was seeing things she hadn't seen before.
Daddy tracked down Mommy on 5th Avenue (since the room still wasn't ready when Daddy arrived) and they spent the afternoon shopping and seeing the sites, including Central Park. They also stopped in and had a late lunch and Bill's Burger. Yum-O is how they described it. They also had dinner at Benjamin (a Peter Lugar restaurant) and had what they described as the best steak they have ever had.

They spent much of the day on Saturday on the site seeing NYC bus. They went on the Downtown tour. Mommy and Daddy thought this was a great way to all of the sites of the city - and they got to learn a little history of the city as well. They returned to the hotel to discover that someone important had checked-in. They didn't know who it was, but the large tour bus and four black conversion vans gave it away. They decided to head out and go to dinner at John's (a pizzeria in the heart of the Theatre District). On the way to dinner, Mommy spotted someone very famous (Daddy said she gasped when she saw him). Of course Daddy missed the Colin Firth sighting, but Mommy didn't. She said he looked really good (almost as good as a King).
When Mommy and Daddy arrived back at the hotel, they headed to the bar for a nightcap (an adult word for an alcoholic beverage). They asked the waitress who was staying the hotel and she said she couldn't tell them. But, she said she would give them a hint. She said "he has a strong aroma." And at that very moment, Mommy and Daddy looked at each other and said, we know who it is. They believed it was Snoop Dog...but they needed to confirm. So, they camped out in the lobby until Snoop made an appearance. He smiled and gave Daddy the peace sign as he left for his "gig." And, Mommy said the smell that followed was quite strong. I can't believe that Snoop has bad body odor :-).
Mommy and Daddy spent much of Sunday on the Uptown Bus Tour. They got to see the homes of the stars, Central Park, Harlem and the place where a Beatle died (The Dakota). Then, they headed to their next hotel down near the World Trade Center site. What they didn't realize is that they were right across the street from the site. Mommy was able to get some great pictures of the construction of the new Freedom Tower (from the 50th floor of the hotel - that is where there room was - that is really high). They took the rest of the afternoon to explore the financial district, including viewing the Statue of Liberty and visiting Wall Street. They went to a nice restaurant in Chelsea for dinner. Mommy was very excited because the Paparazzi were camped outside waiting for someone in the restaurant to come out. Daddy said there was someone in the back room, but the door was closed so they weren't able to see. Bummer...Mommy really wanted to know who was behind the door.

They then retreated to their hotel to rest before Daddy's Monday morning meeting. Then breaking news...they interrupted the show Mommy and Daddy were watching to say that the President was going to make an important national security announcement. Mommy and Daddy had a feeling about what it was, but they waited patiently. Once the heard the news that Osama Bin Laden had been killed, Mommy and Daddy knew that it might be a long night. Remember I said their hotel was right across from Ground Zero, well...it took about 20 minutes for a crowd to form at the site. The crowd only grew larger - and louder. Daddy went out in the crowd and took a picture. He uploaded it to CNN and they called him 15 minutes later to confirm the picture and ask him a bunch of questions about his experience. How cool.

Needless to say, things became quite busy. A media frenzy ensued and it was on. I think it is pretty cool that they got to be part of such an historic event. They are too, but they are glad to be home with me!
